Singing Strategy

Core Roles

One of the Core Roles within the National Plan for Music Education is for all Music Hubs to “Develop a singing strategy to ensure that every pupil sings regularly, and that choirs and other vocal ensembles are available in the area.”

In Staffordshire, there is a wealth of experience within the Music Service and across partnerships to provide, promote and support quality vocal delivery and opportunities for regular singing.

Aims of the Singing Strategy:

Strategic Guidance

  • To help schools grow their confidence in recovering singing post-pandemic
  • Advocate for the importance and benefits of singing across all age groups
  • Ensure young people participate in quality singing and vocal activities in and out of school
  • Support schools to improve their singing provision


  • Provide and promote quality, inclusive teaching
  • Provide strategies and resources for the development of all voice types and needs
  • Ensure progression routes are available for singing
  • Develop singing and vocal activities across the county


  • Provide CPD to improve the quality of singing teaching and leadership
  • Signpost organisations that provide guidance, support and further opportunity
  • Develop young singing leaders
  • Build skills, capacity, and expertise for delivery of the Singing Strategy


  • Ensure opportunities are available for quality performance
  • Promote engagement with the community
