Taking Exams

The music service supports pupils with external examinations through nationally recognised exam boards such as The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM), Trinity College London, London College and Rock School Ltd.

Entering for examinations supports learning and allows pupils to aim high and develop pride in their musical achievements.  Exams generally start at Grade 1 and then progress through to Grade 8 and beyond.  The higher Grades, 6,7 and 8 are recognised by universities and attract UCAS points.

For a variety of reasons, not all pupils are able to take exams and the service has developed its own curriculum with assessment levels to support progress and achievement.  The Music Service curriculum starts prior to Grade 1 and then has levels from 1 to 8, approximately corresponding to grade levels.
